Prof. Nair’s earliest professional writing was during his stint as Music Critic for the Princeton Packet (Princeton, NJ). Also, throughout his career, he has been continuously writing program notes for his numerous concerts.

His intensive career as an author began after he founded the voice laboratory at Drew, performed the initial research into the efficacy of the use spectrography in the voice studio, and then presented the research at the annual symposium of The Voice Foundation in Philadelphia, PA (1997). Immediately following that presentation, Nair was asked to write a book on the subject by Singular Publishing Group, the premiere publisher of scientific and medical research about the voice. The result was his first book, Voice—Tradition and Technology (click on this link to learn more about the book) in 1999.

As that book became known, Nair was asked to write articles for various journals (click on this link to learn more) including the Journal of Singing, Perspectives on Voice and Voice Disorders, and the newsletter of the Voice Foundation.

During this time, part of his duties including teaching a course at Drew University entitled "Techniques of the Voice." Each time he taught the course, he had to gather copious material from disparate books and journals in order to amass the reading component for the classes. More and more, Nair found the need to re-write this material to add perspective and update it with new information. This ultimately led to the creation of a new text book.

This text book, The Craft of Singing, was published by Plural Publishing (the successor to Singular Publishing Group). This large, comprehensive text consisting of both text and illustrations by the author was released in January of 2007. Click on this link to learn more about The Craft of Singing.

Several other books are planned for the future.
