For a 10+ year period, Garyth Nair was also a professional singer in the NY metropolitan area. As a basso cantante, he specialized in works that required the rich tones of the bottom voice. During his time as a professional singer, he sang with such luminaries as Leonard Bernstein, Herbert von Karajan, Pierre Boulez, and Robert Shaw. A highlight of this time as a professional singer was a solo stint with the New York Philharmonic under Pierre Boulez (singing Schubert).
