CONCLUSION
And thus the work of Methodism
in the Philippines goes on. Along with other Wesleyan bodies around the world,
it forms an important part of the Church Universal, helping to keep alive the
emphasis on personally experienced religion that characterized the Evangelical
Revival of eighteenth century England. This is an emphasis that must not be
lost, for religion has an ever-present tendency to become cold and external.
The heart-felt religion of the Reverend John Wesley will always be of significant
importance to the Christian movement. This importance .we acknowledge, not with
pride but with humility, and with the realization that "the religion of
the warmed heart" belongs not to us alone, but to Christ's Universal Church.
What the future holds for Methodism in the Philip- pines we cannot be certain.
But of this much we can be confident: if our religion is vital and alive, if
our devotion is to God and neighbor, and if our primary loyalty is to Christ
and his Kingdom and nothing less, then we need have nothing to fear. The future
is in his hands and he will lead us aright into the great purposes he has for
his faithful disciples.
