In the Fall of 2007, Slighe nan Gaidheal (the West Coast’s premiere Scottish Gaelic organization) celebrated its 10 year anniversary.  This documentary follows active members and supporters of the group in the tenth year of the organization’s annual cycle of events.  Mixing footage from these events, personal interviews, home video, performance clips, and other pertinent footage, the film asks what it means for a community of language learners to be active in efforts to preserve, and even attempt to resuscitate, an endangered language in the U.S.  The film explores the many ways people view and approach learning Scottish Gaidhlig and belonging to a community of fellow learners, musicians, and artisans in the US.  Ideas and ideals of heritage, community, identity, learning, history, globalism, passion, romanticism, fancy and longing emerge in a rich terrain that redefines what it means to be in a close-knit, all-volunteer community in today’s increasingly busy, alienating, and forward looking world.
