Call for Papers

(i) FOR BRS SESSIONS AT EASTERN AND CENTRAL MEETINGS OF THE APA

The Bertrand Russell Society regularly hosts sessions of talks at the Eastern and Central American Philosophical Association meetings. Those interested in presenting a 20-minute talk at the APA on any aspect of Russell's work or on the history of early analytic philosophy should submit a title and abstract to Prof. Rosalind Carey, Dept. of Philosophy, Lehman College-CUNY at rosalind.carey@lehman.cuny.edu. Be sure to query her first for deadlines.

(ii) FOR THE NEXT ANNUAL MEETING OF THE BRS

Deadline April 30, 2009

The Bertrand Russell Society invites any interested person to deliver a paper or talk at our next annual meeting, to be held in May or June 2009 (exact date and place yet to be decided). Papers, presented in 20-minute talks, can be on any facet of Russell's life, work, or influence, and should be directed to a general audience consisting of a mix of academics and non-academics. The Annual Meeting is an informal weekend gathering of Russell Society members of diverse interests and backgrounds.

Please submit a title and abstract to Prof. Alan Schwerin, BRS President, Dept. of Philosophy, Monmouth University, West Long Branch, NJ by April 30, 2009.

(iii) FOR THE NEXT ANNUAL BRS Prizes for Papers COMPETITION

The Bertrand Russell Society invites papers for our BRS annual Student Essay Prize competition. Deadline: April 30, 2009. We award two prizes annually for the best new papers by an undergraduate, graduate student or non-member non-academic. Prize-winners will present their papers at the Society's next Annual Meeting, receive $200, free registration, lodging and banquet at the Annual Meeting, and a complimentary first-year membership in The Bertrand Russell Society.

Papers can be on any aspect of Russell's life, work, or influence. They must be suitable for presentation to a general audience, and should be designed for a presentation of 20 to 30 minutes (10 to 12 double-spaced pages of text).

Submit a complete or nearly complete paper, not an abstract. State that you would, if chosen, attend the BRS Annual Meeting. Those who have previously appeared on an Annual Meeting program are not eligible. Submit your paper by April 30, 2009 to Prof. Alan Schwerin, BRS President, Dept. of Philosophy, Monmouth University, West Long Branch, NJ 07764.
