The Shiny Plastic Cat

            (Emulation of Rod McKuen)

Sleepers and Poems written by fools

Anyone can do i if they just know the rules

Fear of not knowing where it’s at

Tell all your troubles to the Shiny Plastic Cat

Streets and stars alike are muddy

So is truth, and all that you study

“We are all like Casey, up at bat.”

Says the Shiny Plastic Cat

A couple of couples walking in pairs

Time will go up if you’re walking downstairs

“We sit in the basement, watching time like a rat.”

We sit and we pounce for the Shiny Plastic Cat

Secular Prayers from a Pop Culture Cult

They just can’t believe it they get no result

“We can wash our own souls at the local laundromat.”

But we borrow the change from the Shiny Plastic Cat

Just follow the news and leave trash as your trail

Look and you’ll see the Grand-Opening-Going-Out-Of-Business-Sal

When the world gets too cold, just up the thermostat

“Be careful, I melt.” Warns the Shiny Plastic Cat.
