Mrs. Vadillo I
Think You Made Me Stay Up Too Late To Do This Biology Assignment
By Kristin Speranza
As helped out a lot by Jen Davenport
‘Twas the night be for bio and I sat and I thought
The process of protein synthesis was the knowledge I sought.
It started in the nucleus, that much was clear
But then I shouted out loud, “Where does it go from here?”
Transcription created the mRNA
With help from le polymerase du RNA
Cytoplasm was the next stop on the tour
While the mRNA was attached to les ribosomes du jour
The base sequences, called codons, all seemed rather placid,
But they were all hippies, strung out on acid (20 amino ones, that is)
TRNA came along for the ride
With a specific amino acid right at its side
“The anticodon is straight-edge!” I said with a cheer;
“It compliments the codon, its ‘on acid’ peer!”
The two came together, cause that’s what opposites do
Chaining the amino acids together (with glue!)
These chains form a thing, called polypeptide
But the transcription was over, so I sat down and cried
And as I was crying, I heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
“It’s Santa!” I cried, “It’s Santa! He’s here!”
And then I passed out, cause I had had too much…
Milk.
