This course examines the theme of love, both
human and divine, as expressed in poetry, narrative and drama from the late
fifteenth to the early seventeenth century in Spain. Discussions of the literary selections will
refer to theories/notions about love that inform these works.

REQUIREMENTS:
Students are expected to attend class regularly, prepare the reading
assignment, participate in class discussion, and hand in all work on time. All discussion will be in Spanish and
individual practice of the language is essential.
Several short papers (2-5 pages) will be assigned. Some will be précis of critical
articles. Re-writes may be
requested. A final paper/project or a
final exam at end of semester--student may elect (majors should do paper).
Grammar as well as and content will be counted in all written assignments.
Final grade will be established on equal
distribution of following:
