Elise DuBord

Elise DuBord is an Assistant Professor of Spanish at Drew University. She is originally from Minnesota and completed her undergraduate studies in Spanish at Minnesota State University, Moorhead after spending two years studying abroad at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez.

After college,Elise spent two years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Guatemala collaborating with a local non-profit organization in community development, organic agriculture, and adult literacy projects.

Elise then completed her graduate studies at the University of Arizona where she received a M.A. in Latin American Studies (2004) and a Ph.D. in Spanish (2008) with an emphasis in Border Studies and Sociolinguistics.

Her research interests include intercultural language contact, critical race theory, language policy, and community-based learning. Elise teaches Spanish language courses, Spanish for heritage learners, linguistics, cultural studies, and community-based learning.
