Garyth Nair has been teaching and researching the human singing voice throughout most of his career. Since the acquisition of spectrographic technology and his founding of the voice lab in the Drew Music Department, Prof. Nair has devoted considerable time to researching the use of this technology in the applied voice studio. There is a sweet irony in this late-career stint as a voice scientist — early in his education, Nair had to choose between his two principal passions, biology and music. Thus, with his research in voice, he can now both loves in the pursuit of better vocal pedagogy techniques. In addition the impact on the world of vocal pedagogy, Prof. Nair's work has promoted heightened awareness of new possibilities for the use of spectrography in the speech area as well.
