THE TALE OF JONATHAN FISHER

| The Tale of Jonathan Fisher is a quirky story about a fisherman from turn-of-the-century Block Island and his dream of ganing fame and fortune. Jonathan shrugs off all his responsibilities to the island to pursue the capture of the giant cod that lives in the bay. A band of town's people plot to foil Jonathan's great plan, but he is saved in the end by the former president, Grover Cleveland. This hilarious Robert Fisher Oxnam Award winning play is written by alum Szch W. Davis (CLA 02) and stars Rob Scherzer in the role of Jonathan with Megan Slater, Lawrence Douglas Weed, Benjamin Weisman, David Fusco, John Kubicek and Alex Barron. | Gin and
Tonic is a brief
glimpse into the life of Beth (sophomore Esme Allen), a 21-year old woman
who is forced to come home for an afternoon to care for the grandfather she
can’t stand. Ike (senior Adam Smith), is a mischievous, cranky old
man on his deathbed who is sick and tired of his granddaughter’s attitude.
When these two give each other a piece of their minds, sparks fly, insults
are hurled, and maybe, just maybe, a connection is made.

'DENTITY CRISIS

| 'Dentity Crisis,by Christopher Durang, directed by Colleen Jordan, is a satirical seven-dimensional comedy that would make even the perfect nuclear family question the reality of their home. Teenage Jane (junior Suzanne Watts) is going sane in an insane world. Her over-bearing delusional mother Edith (freshman Kristin Van Steemburg) and her split-personality father/brother/grandfather/Count from France (sophomore Matt Galen) try everything in their power to bring Jane back to their "normal" reality. Jane's only hope is her seemingly normal psychologist Summers (sophomore Derek Slight) who leaves in a hurry after diagnosing Jane, only to return with a sex-change operation. Summers and his wife Harriet (junior Natasha Mulla) hop on the train to insanity to help right Jane. Durang questions the motives behind prescribed family behavior and everything winds up in a reality-twisted knot. COMMONS THEATRE |

Sopranois the first play
written by Eugene Ionesco, who is often called the father of absurdism. Ionesco
attempted to write an anti-play where the presence of a traditional plot
is absent, but instead the dialogue and language assume the role of plot.
The Bald Soprano is a commentary on the English in post World War Two Britain
when men were returning from war, family and gender were being redefined,
a youth movement was beginning, and the labour party was emerging. Against
this historical lanscape, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Martin, Mary and
the Fire Chief are entangled in a very unique and distorted world
where human connection and empathy are rare, and where rising generational differences further complicate understanding and communication. |

| Dukgannarala("The Bearer of Woes") will become the first modern Sri Lankan play produced on American soil. When a woman rushes into a theater seeking asylum from her abusive husband she forces the cast and audience to question traditional assumptions about a woman's place in the world and an individual's responsibility to their family, their community, and the world at large. Blending poetic dialogue, music from around the world, and a variety of dance from classical South and Southeast Asian to modern, this multicultural play is a journey through the political and social turmoil of 1980s Sri Lanka on a personal level and a compassionate cry for the rejection of violence on any level. |
