Random career highlights:
Directing Vanderbilt University's program in Madrid (twice).
Meeting Abe Osheroff, Abraham Lincoln Brigade volunteer in
Spain during its civil war (1936-39) and enjoying a 20-year friendship
with so many others of these courageous men and women. The vets
inspired many of my students and sparked an abiding research interest.
