Eric ran away to Boulder to hide. From his destiny. From his past. From his feelings. He had long since closed off his heart finding it easier to survive if he did not care for anything. And then he met Elizabeth.
The first time he saw her, pinned to the floor by a bear, something inside him twisted. He didn't believed in love at first sight but he felt a bang in his heart, like logs thrown into the fireplace. Her open, loving nature pulled at him, drawing him out. When finally caught in his words by Lucy and Elizabeth, he could not deny what he felt inside for Elizabeth. The door to his heart, his soul, had been opened and a fire was beginning in that cold, dark place in his chest he'd hoped to forget. Eric was in love with Elizabeth. Admitting that to her and himself, has freed him from many of his old pain and opened him up to life's good and bad.
Finally caring for someone opened up the pathways he'd long shut down. He's come to call a man his brother, Nathan. But caring for others has also brought with it the same, old pain. His insides have been twisted more than once with Nathan. Eric loves the bear for his kind, gentle soul and nothing has hurt worse then watching him on his new, rocky path, unable to help. Nathan's decisions of late have hurt Eric more than he can ever know, seeing a bit of what he could have been in the bear. Every time he tries to help, though, he seems to just make it worse.
Confusion has been part and parcel since joining up with the Guardian. He has found himself in the middle of something he can not quite understand but that he can not walk away from. Now that he has bonded with Elizabeth, he has come to understand a bit of what his angatquq taught him. The attack on Elizabeth hurt Eric more than he is willing to admit, being unable to stop the violation. Eric fights returning to his old self and hiding from everything, despite the pain he is feeling, because of his love for Elizabeth.
An enigma in his relationship with Elizabeth, he has come to call Lucy a friend. He finds it hard not to like her, finding too many similarities between himself and her. The look in Elizabeth's eyes when she is around and the bond they share enlivens his soul. But, Eric knows so little about her and longs to know more about her, seeing something in her. Now with Shane's ascendance, things seem much more complicated. While he has nothing against the arrogant god, the way he treats Elizabeth angers him more than he can control. Just more things to twist up Eric's insides.
Eric has begun to think that Fate, the spirits, the Goddess, whatever, had a reason for bringing him to Boulder. In Elizabeth, he has found a reason to face his destiny, a strength he'd not known in a long time. With his mother's spirit and Elizabeth's love, Eric is ready to face what is to come. Still there is a part of him afraid of it all. A part of him hopes he truly outran his fate, despite what horrible things that may mean. The nightmares still come but, recently, they have changed and what he sees now scares him more than reliving his mother's death again. In that dark corner of his mind, a spirit whispers to him that if he faces his destiny, things will change and he may loose Elizabeth.
