Spanish Civil War Exhibit

THEY STILL DRAW PICTURES:
CHIILDREN'S ART FROM THE SPANISH CIVIL WAR (1936-39
)

Drew University hosted a traveling exhibit of sixty photos and drawings that detail the trauma of war as seen through the lens of the reality of children who experienced war and, in particular, the civil war that was fought unsuccessfully to protect the elected image of Spanish Civil War Exhbit drawingRepublic from falling into the hands of Fascists in Spain (1936-39). This fierce conflict resulted in the rise to power of one of the major dictators in Europe, Francisco Franco. The drawings and photos were displayed in the rotunda of the Rose Memorial Library from March 19 to May 30, 2008 and were sponsored by the Library in addition to the Academic Dean's office, the Spanish Department and the European Studies Program. This exhibit was possible thanks to the generous funding from the Dean's office. The exhibit has been traveling to schools and public venues for several years. When we were informed that a spot had opened up this spring, we eagerly sought to secure the exhibit.
